Rules and Regulations
Cemetery Regulations:
- The cemetery is used solely for the burial of human bodies.
- Cemetery Hours are 8:00 a.m. to dusk.
- No pets allowed in cemetery.
- No planting of trees or shrubs.
- All flowers and decorations must be contained within the area of headstone foundation.
- Flowers may be placed on graves in the grass from the Thursday before Memorial Day until the Monday one week after Memorial Day.
- All headstones must be placed on a concrete foundation.
- Seasonal decorations may be placed on graves from Thanksgiving until March 1, excluding the Columbarium area.
- City of Brush! is not responsible for lost or missing flowers or decorations.
- No glass flower vases or containers.
- Speed limit not to exceed 10 miles per hour.
- Throwing rubbish on any part of the grounds or buildings, except into designated receptacles, is prohibited.
- All persons are prohibited from gathering flowers, either wild or cultivated, or breaking trees, shrubs or plants, or feeding or disturbing birds or other animal life within the cemetery.
- No firearms shall be permitted within the cemeteries, except firearms used in connection with a military funeral, Veteran’s Day celebrations, or by police officers.
Columbarium Regulations:
- Use of epoxy adhesives, stickers, tape, etc is not permitted to secure objects or décor to the niche fronts.
- Authorized vases may be purchased from the City of Brush! if you are interested, at a fee of $65 which includes installation.
- Flowers and tributes may only be placed in or attached to authorized vases, and must not overlap into surrounding niches.
*Niche owners who violate this rule will be held responsible for replacing niche fronts that have been damaged by improperly attaching flowers or tributes. The Brush Memorial Cemetery reserves the right to remove any and all objects placed on or between niche fronts that are not properly placed in or attached to an authorized vase.
Sale of Lots
- Costs
- $50 for persons up to six years of age.
- $400 for all other persons.
- $200 for county indigents.
- Veteran lots free of charge.
- Columbarium Niches: $400 single, $500 double.
- Additional grave space(s) shall be purchased to accommodate containers exceeding 40"x96"
*Applications for the purchase of the Right of Interment must be made at City Hall, where plots showing size, location and description of all lots and the schedule of prices will be kept on file.
*All persons purchasing a Right of Interment will be given a packet including a map of the Cemeteries and Columbarium, copy of Rules and Regulations, and history of the Brush Memorial Cemetery.
Opening and Closing a Grave
- The fee for opening and closing all Cemetery lots for burial, including reinterment and disinterment shall be as follows:
- $100 for persons up to six years of age buried in a designated baby section.
- $450 for earth burials not within the baby or indigent sections.
- $200 for earth burials within a designated indigent section.
- $225 for cremated remains interred in the ground.
- $200 for each cremated remains interred within a niche.
- $100 for each cremated remains interred within a designated indigent section.
*An additional $150 shall be paid for any burial, reinterment, or disinterment occurring on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday observed by City of Brush! employees. Sunday burials are permitted only by written recommendation of Health Department officials.
- The fee for any disinterment shall be the same as for Opening and Closing. If a new container is necessary to make reinterment, such container shall be purchased by the party making the reinterment.
- The full cost of Opening and Closing shall be paid prior to an interment. However, the City may extend credit to any mortuary located within the City of Brush for a period not to exceed 30 days. Indigent burials are exempt from this provision.
Payment
- Any available lot(s) or burial space(s) may be reserved without payment for a specific purchaser for a period not to exceed sixty (60) days.
