Outstanding Pioneer Awards
2007 - Ron Edwards Family - Vicki and Ron Edwards, Angie and Zach Deal own and operate Edwards Right Price Market and Flowerland. They represent not only their business but the historical commitment to Morgan County. The original Edwards Market was started by Victor Edwards Sr. and his wife Dorothy in the 1930s. Their focus on fresh fruits and vegetables is still prevalent today in this family market. 2006 - John Glenn Family - Four generations of ranching south of Ft. Morgan. The traditions of the family have proven them to be good businessmen, good and generous neighbors and good caretakers of the land. 2005 - Etheldean Bell - Born in Ft. Morgan, an outstanding community member involved with the senior center and her church. She was a former teacher and co-authored a book entitled "One Hundred and Eleven Trees." 2004 - Harry Mohrlang - Former Brush Rodeo contestant, lifelong Brush resident and longtime supporter of the Brush Rodeo 2003 - Ruth Scott - Longtime Brush resident, Ruth was nominated for untiring efforts to help preserve the most precious commodity, our history. Ruth served as Librarian of the Brush Carnegie Library from 1969 - 1982. More recently she helped compile a history of the United Methodist Church of Brush and the the original Central School. She is also an active supporter of the Brush Museum and Cultural Center. 2002 - Elton and Laura Ingmire and Ray and Bev Ingmire - Longtime Morgan County business owners, champions of the community, active church members and volunteers to many endeavors. 2001 - Carl and Lucille Schlothauer - Longtime residents of Morgan County. They are proud farmers and proud Americans. In past years Lucille was a blue ribbon winner for angel food cake and pumpkin pie at the County Fair. Carl won many a blue ribbon for champion mule and horse teams as well as champion corn. 2000 - Mary Mohrlang - A true Pioneer of 104 years, Mary has been a resident of the area more than 80 years. She and her husband Jacob farmed in Hillrose. 1999 Phil and Betty Vondy - Both are life-long residents of Brush. Betty is a Knearl Alumni and has managed the East Morgan County Hospital Gift Shop for 13 years and has been a member of the Auxiliary for 15. Phil is a World War II veteran, having served in Germany, France and Italy. 1998 Jim and Anna Marie Hutcheson - Jim was born in Brush, graduated from Brush High School in 1943. He served as Council Member for two terms in the 60's and was elected Mayor in 1971. Anna Marie married Jim in 1949 and is a retired nurse. 1997 Sylva Kula - Born July 13, 1894, and spent all of her life in Morgan county. Very active in Republican party, her church and community. Named pioneer of Morgan county, on July 1996, just before her 102nd birthday. 1996 Scott Wolever - in 1914 at age 10, Scott came to Morgan County. As a farmer, he was very active in the community and in 1950 he was on the planning Committee for Improvements to highway 71 in getting it paved. 1995 Don & Margaret Queen - Born in a sod hut 20 miles south of Brush, Don is a lifetime Morgan County resident. He served in Morgan County as Deputy Sheriff and a County Commissioner. Margaret taught in Morgan County schools for 35 years. 1994 Howard & Idessa Mann - Howard was a long-time resident of Morgan County. Howard was sheriff of Morgan County for 22 years and Idessa worked for Mountain Bell for 37 years. 1993 Calvin "Cal" Leach - Past Mayor of Brush and active community leader. Cal moved to Brush in 1948 and purchased McMullen Jewelry. 1992 Frank & Kathy Mercer - Longtime residents and active community leaders. 1991 Elizabeth Church - Born in Washington County, but came to Brush in 1919 and graduated high school in 1921. She was very active in the community, a member and served in many offices of the Methodist church since 1925. 1990 Reverend Reinhold Opp - Community Philanthropist. 1989 Warren M. "Doc" and Helen Watrous - Civic leader and President of Farmers State Bank of Brush from 1967 to 1978. They are the first husband and wife team to be honored in the history of this award. |
